Michael Maloney, Pipe Trades

Michael Maloney was born in Trenton, New Jersey on November 15, 1959. He is a graduate (1973) of St. Anthony’s Grammar School and St. Anthony’s (1977) High School in Hamilton Twp also Mercer County Vocational School Assinpunk center and Thomas Edison State College (2002) in Trenton, NJ. He began his work career as a steamfitter apprentice in Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #9 September of 1977. He was in the first apprenticeship class of the newly formed Local 9 in Central New Jersey. Local 9 was created when six Plumber & Pipefitter union locals merged into one in 1977. Inspired by his upbringing from his Mother and Father living in a union household Michael decided to get involved as an officer in Local 9.

He was elected to the Local 9 Examining Board in 1985 then re-elected in 1988. Also in 1988 he was elected as a Trustee to the Health and Welfare Fund and in 1991 he was elected to the Executive Board. In 1994 at the age of 34 he was elected as a Business Agent for Local 9. In 1997 he was appointed Assistant Business Manager. In December of 2004 he was elected Business Manager-Financial Secretary of Local 9. Local 9 currently has 2500 members in the Plumbing, Pipefitting, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration, Service Technician industry.

In addition to his Local 9 organized labor efforts, Michael Maloney is currently the President of the New Jersey State Pipe trades. Michael is also currently the President of the Mercer County Central Labor Council. The MCCLC has 50,000 families represented by 49 area unions in Mercer County. He serves on the State of New Jersey Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers and Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Board of Examiners and he also serves on the Department of Community Affairs Plumbing Sub-code Committee. He also serves as a member of the National Standard Plumbing Code. He also serves as a commissioner for the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA). He is also a board member of the New Jersey School Development Authority (SDA). He is a Hamilton Twp Planning board member serving since 1996. Michael is a licensed master plumber and has acquired a Plumbing/Mechanical inspector and Stationary Engineer licenses. He is also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Michael is a lifelong Hamilton Twp New Jersey resident where he resides with his wife Toni of 32 years and sons Justin age 26 and Jason age 23.
